At a Phoenix news conference, the right-wing senator claimed illegal immigrants light fires in the wilderness for warmth, to send signals and to distract border agents, CNN said. “There is substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally,” McCain said. “The answer to that part of the problem is to get a secure border.”

Brewer Takes Immigration Fight to Supreme Court


Arizona Appeals to Supreme Court on Immigration Law Ruling Published May 09, 2011 | Associated Press PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer announced Monday she will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that put the most controversial parts of the state’s immigration enforcement law on hold. The planned appeal to the high court comes after Brewer lost an appeal April 11, when a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to reverse a lower court’s order that prevented key parts of the law from being enforced. The panel said federal officials were likely to prove the law is unconstitutional and succeed in their argument that Congress has given the federal government sole authority to enforce immigration laws.

So now we know why the DHS/Homeland Security has been lying to the entire planet.  The Border Patrol is DEMANDING that Sherrifs do not arrest the ILLEGAL INVASIONISTAS coming through Arizona.  What business is it of a federal agency to dictate to a State what to do and what not to do?

So, go ahead and don’t donate, not that anyone does anyway except for a skant few.  We don’t need any equipment.  We don’t need REAL bullets (we do not carry rubber bullets).  We don’t need any ammo at all.  We don’t need any food.  We don’t need any water.  We don’t need any night-vision gear.  Nothing at all.  We don’t arrest anyone and we don’t even talk to the Border Patrol at all.  We are on our own.

Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever told that a supervisor with the U.S. Border Patrol told him as recently as this month that the federal agency’s office on Arizona’s southern border was under orders to keep apprehension numbers down during specific reporting time periods.

“The senior supervisor agent is telling me about how their mission is now to scare people back,” Dever said in an interview with “He said, ‘I had to go back to my guys and tell them not to catch anybody, that their job is to chase people away. … They were not to catch anyone, arrest anyone. Their job was to set up posture, to intimidate people, to get them to go back.”

Dever said his recent conversation with the Border Patrol supervisor was the latest in a series of communications on the subject that he has had with various federal agents over the last two years. Dever said he plans to relay the substance of these conversations when he testifies under oath next month before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

“I will raise my hand to tell the truth and swear to God, and nothing is more serious or important than that,” he said. “I’m going to tell them that, here’s what I hear and see every day: I had conversation with agent A, B, C, D and this is what they told me.”

Dever’s charges were vigorously denied by a commander with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“The claim that Border Patrol supervisors have been instructed to underreport or manipulate our statistics is unequivocally false,” Jeffery Self, commander of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Joint Field Command in Arizona, said in a written statement.

“I took an oath that I take very seriously, and I find it insulting that anyone, especially a fellow law enforcement officer, would imply that we would put the protection of the American public and security of our nation’s borders in danger just for a numbers game,” he said. “Our mission does not waiver based on political climate, and it never will. To suggest that we are ambiguous in enforcing our laws belittles the work of more than 6,000 CBP employees in Arizona who dedicate their lives to protect our borders every day.”

In recent days, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has said the U.S.-Mexican border is more secure than ever, and Homeland Security officials have used recent statistics to support those claims.

“There is a perception that the border is worse now than it ever has been,” Napolitano said at the El Paso border crossing last week. “That is wrong. The border is better now than it ever has been.”

Dever doesn’t agree.

“Janet Napolitano says the border is more secure than it’s ever been. I’ve been here for 60 years, and I’m telling you that’s not true,” he said.

The sheriff of Santa Cruz County, which borders Dever’s Cochise County to the west, said, “This is news to me,” when asked about reports that border agents were being told to turn illegal immigrants back to Mexico rather than arrest them.

“It comes as a complete surprise that that would be something that’s going around,” Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada said. “I meet with Dever all the time and I have great respect for him, so I expect he’d come forward and say what he knows and give the source.

“Not knowing who the source is, how reliable that source is, I really don’t have much of a position,” Estrada said. “I’ve been around a real long time and haven’t heard anything like this. By the same token, you learn new things every day.”

Both sheriffs are elected officials. Dever is a Republican, Estrada, a Democrat.

Others have questioned the methodology and conclusions of the Homeland Security numbers showing the border is more secure.

Mark Hanna, CEO of Real Life Enterprises, a Phoenix-based technology integration and security company, has testified before the Arizona Senate about what he called Homeland Security’s flawed methodology used to compile border security statistics. Hanna maintains the numbers are dangerously misleading.

Hanna, who is currently working on a private/public partnership pilot program along the Arizona border, said he attended a February conference at which Michael Fisher, chief of the United States Border Patrol, and Mark S. Borkowski, assistant commissioner for technology and innovation acquisition, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, showed off charts indicating arrests were decreasing and argued the border was more secure. The charts also showed an increase in marijuana seizures along the border and an increase in Border Patrol agents.

But those charts left out crucial data, Hanna said.

“Since we don’t know how many illegal crossings are occurring, then a decrease in apprehensions might mean that there are fewer illegal crossings, and the border is more secure. But it could also just as easily mean that more illegal border crossings are occurring, and we’re just not catching as many. In order to know how secure the border is, you need to know how many are crossing and the threat level of those who are crossing illegally,” he said.

“It is a very dangerous condition for the secretary of Homeland Security to be using incomplete data to form such a conclusion, and then repeatedly announce these conclusions as fact,” he said.

The Department of Homeland Security did not return repeated requests for comment on Hanna’s specific challenges to the agency’s methodology.

Whatever the methodology, Dever said the numbers don’t accurately describe what’s happening on the ground.

“We do not know who’s crossing that border, but that anyone who wants to can. That’s the message our nation needs to hear, that anyone who wants to can, and is. And our own Department of Homeland Security does not have clear definition of what securing the border even means,” Dever said.

“People are disgusted, the smiles are gone off their face, their general sense of welfare been taken away from them and until that’s returned you can throw all the numbers on the board. … I’ll tell Napolitano, in spite of all of your declarations and efforts to the contrary, things are not safe. No, they are not secure.

“You can use your numbers to say it’s more secure, but it does not define a sense of safety or well-being. You can say it’s more secure, but it’s more dangerous than ever.”

AZ Senate Panel Passes Sweeping Bills Targeting Illegals, Birthright Citizenship


PHOENIX — An Arizona Senate committee late Tuesday narrowly approved a sweeping bill that would target illegal immigrants in public housing, public benefits and the workplace. The committee earlier Tuesday also approved a bill that would deny automatic citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants in a measure designed to set up a possible U.S. Supreme Court case on the issue. Republican state Sen. Russell Pearce, who authored Arizona’s controversial illegal immigration law last year that touched off a nationwide debate on whether states can enforce federal immigration laws, sponsored Tuesday’s more sweeping measure. “If you’re in the country illegally, you don’t have a right to public benefits, period,” he said. The bill toughens requirements that employers check work eligibility of new hires, allowing for their business licenses to be suspended if they don’t use the federal E-Verify system. Workers caught using a false identity to get a job would face mandatory six-month jail sentences. It also requires schools to collect information on the legal status of students and report them to law enforcement if their parents don’t provide the necessary documents or the documents appear false. The bill also makes it illegal for an illegal immigrant to drive in the state, providing for a 30-day minimum jail sentence and the seizure of their vehicles if they are convicted. In housing, it requires public agencies to verify the immigration status of renters and to evict everyone living in a unit if one was found to be an illegal immigrant. For health care, the bill changes some of the document requirements for the state’s Medicaid program.

But the bill is causing concern among medical professionals who fear they will become de facto immigration agents under the law.

AZ Rancher Ordered to Pay Damages to Illegals he Found on his Property

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court verdict ordering Arizona rancher Roger Barnett to pay damages of $87,000 for holding a group of undocumented immigrants at gunpoint. The incident occurred in March 2004 when the gun-toting Barnett detained a group of 16 unauthorized immigrants — none of them carrying weapons — on public land near the border town of Douglas, Arizona. He held the group captive with threats that his dog would attack them if anyone moved or tried to escape. Barnett also kicked an woman while she was on the ground. A federal court jury in Arizona ruled in 2009 that Barnett had no cause to plead self-defense, since he admitted that no one had attacked or threatened him, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund noted. Barnett appealed to the Nirth Circuit, which upheld the original verdict.

1 Dead, 3 Injured in Helicopter Crash Near Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Pima County Sheriff’s Department helicopter crashed on the side of a rugged mountain Monday, killing one person and injuring three others.

Authorities say one of the survivors is hospitalized in critical condition and the other two are in serious condition. Their names haven’t been released and sheriff’s officials won’t immediately say if all four people aboard the copter were department employees.

Authorities say the Hughes 500 helicopter went down northwest of Tucson around 11 a.m. as the four-person crew was scouting an area in the Ironwood National Forest for possible locations for radio communications towers.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say the cause of the crash isn’t immediately known.

Drug Smugglers Use Catapult to Fling Pot to Arizona


Congresswoman Shot in Arizona - Fighting for Her Life

Az Rep Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her lifeArizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is in an intensive care unit following surgery for a gunshot wound in the head at close range, the University of Arizona Medical Center announced Saturday afternoon.

Dr. Peter Rhee, a surgeon and chief of the trauma, critical care and emergency surgery, said he is "very optimistic" about the congresswoman's recovery.

However, Federal District Judge John M. Roll was shot and killed during the town-hall style event outside a Safeway grocery store in Tucson.

At least 19 people were shot at Giffords' "Congress on Your Corner" event, including three members of the Democratic congresswoman's staff in Arizona. Five have died, including one of Giffords' aides and a 9-year-old girl. Several others are in critical condition at the university hospital.

State Sen. Linda Lopez, a close friend of Giffords', told Fox News that the three-term congresswoman was shot in the temple and the bullet exited through her forehead. Lopez said Giffords was responding to commands.

Fox News confirmed that a 22-year-old white male named Jared Loughner was taken into custody as the alleged shooter. Police reportedly had also arrested a second suspect, however 
law enforcement official told Fox News they believe Loughner acted alone after a "preliminary search" for a second suspect turned up no one.

Authorities said they believed Loughner had sent out a video saying that he expected Saturday to be his last day and had written on his MySpace page several "final thoughts" that included rants on illiteracy and the failure of U.S. currency to be backed by gold.

According to the law enforcement official, the suspect began shouting something before shooting wildly with an automatic weapon. Shots then rang out from the crowd -- a security agent or someone else fired at the suspect who survived.

Giffords, 40, has held multiple "Congress on Your Corner" events over the past four years, an aide told Fox News, adding that she had held three previous events at this venue before.

In November, Giffords was re-elected to her third term as representative of Arizona's 8th Congressional District, winning a tight race against a Tea Party-backed candidate. She was one of 19 Democrats who voted against House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi for speaker this week.

Giffords, a gun rights advocate, was first elected to Congress 2006 when she rode a wave of Democratic victories. However, she separated herself from most in her caucus when she criticized President Obama last summer for not sending more National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Giffords, who had been threatened previously, was a member of the Arizona House and Senate before coming to Washington. She is married to astronaut Mark Kelly. Sen. Bill Nelson, R-Fla., said Kelly is training to be the next commander of the space shuttle mission slated for April and her brother-in-law is currently serving aboard the International Space Station.

Bipartisan expressions of support poured out for Giffords in the hours after the shooting with Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., issuing a statement saying her "tears are flowing" for Giffords and Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., saying he was "sickened by the horrific attack."

Obama issued a statement, calling it "an unspeakable tragedy." He ordered FBI Director Robert Mueller to Arizona to lead the investigation.

"I've spoken to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and have offered her the full resources of the government," Obama said in live remarks to the nation. "It is a tragedy for Arizona and a tragedy for our entire country. What Americans do at a time of tragedy is to come together and support each other. ...We are going to get to the bottom of this and we are going to get through this."

Brewer said law enforcement and government at all levels have a "shared determination to ensure justice is fully served."

"I am just heartbroken," Brewer said. "Gabby is ore than just a colleague, she is a friend. She has always been a noble public servant ... It's an unbelievable tragedy that the people of Arizona experienced today, one of which of course in our worst nightmares we never would have imagined."

She added that the shooting is not something that shows favor for the state, but that the incident doesn't represent the vast majority of sentiment among Arizonans. As is the case elsewhere, "We have disturbed people in our community that do terrible, violent things."

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Capitol Police said the agency "remains at a high level of readiness, consistent with our operating condition on U.S. Capitol Grounds. We continue to maintain a robust presence. [...] read the rest at Fox News

New SAFE Mission Report - Into The Valley Of Death, U.S.A. - Introduction

Me, holding up a burlap sack used by drug mules, laying in a cache of discarded sacks, a mere 15 meters from busy US Interstate 8. Riddick, behind me.There are two new areas of operation in which I’ve had a particular interest in setting up SAFE operations. One is Nogales, the other is the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation. The most pressing of the two, for a variety of reasons, was the reservation. Due to a confluence of facilitating circumstances, the appropriate moment to get the ball rolling there came last Tuesday, December 28, and so a team of us headed out for an initial scout of the center of the northern border of the rez.

The rez was important to me because of intel I had received indicating that it was a hotbed of cartel and illegal immigration activity. The need to get a handle on the situation was made even more pressing by the fact that the reservation nullified nearly a third of the Arizona/Mexico border, replacing it with the much more complex multi-dimensional border that Arizona shares with the reservation. Now, keeping in mind that the reservation is a de-facto sovereign nation over which the United States has no authority or control, and therefor is left unable to police its border with Mexico, take a look at what I’m talking about:

Now, also keep in mind that the so-called “smuggling superhighway” to Phoenix, the “superhighway” that Sheriff Paul Babeu’s deputy was ambushed and wounded in, the Vekal Valley, flows directly through the reservation and out of its northern border. Here’s an excellent video for some background on this “superhighway” through a valley of what I will later show you to be death and rape:

The team that was assembled for the day was led by “Charlie”, an Iraq war Marine vet who had seen plenty of action, and otherwise consisted of myself, another Iraq/Afghanistan combat vet with the call sign “JP”, a Marine vet (who did time in Arab Gulf States prior to the war) and perhaps the best weapons/armed-defense instructor in the country with the call sign “Riddick”, a young civilian Conservative from a solid Marine Corps family with the call sign “Vengeance”, and a civilian weapons expert and longtime Conservative activist with the call sign “Jericho”. Other than me, who decided to go out Old-School-Pat-Dollard-In-Iraq-Style (no weapons but camera, pen, and paper), everyone was more than appropriately armed and armored. Charlie and JP had already done an earlier scout, so we weren’t going out totally blind of prior eyes-on. At about 09:00 my video camera broke, leaving me with just a still shooter. No time for a fix. At about 09:15 Charlie delivered the Op Order, and we all programmed the necessary emergency numbers into our cell phones. We loaded up into our 4×4′s, and headed out. We were well-prepared for confrontation but not necessarily looking for it, as this was to be a simple initial scout, my first attempt to get an eyes-on handle of a portion of what was to become a critical new AO for the SAFE Citizen Patrol. Look, feel, and gather physical battlespace intel. Simple, but as always, potentially deadly.

Charlie had previously done some patrolling with me and another SAFE team. JP, who will now be commanding this new AO for SAFE, had not. I’d known him for some time prior though, and had been anxious to get out in the field with him, because they just don’t come any better. JP is a genuine American hero. He’s likely to kick my ass for saying that, but I consider it to be true. He is a Marine who was a friend of one of the four contractors who were murdered, mutilated, burned and hung from a bridge in Fallujah in a notorious incident that served as a primary catalyst for the two Battles of Fallujah, the second of which ultimately won us control of what had become Al Qaeda’s capital in Iraq. JP was not much interested in leaving either the incident unavenged, or his friend’s body in the hands of these animals. He organized a team, and went into the city which was still essentially entirely controlled by the enemy, in order to get the body of their friend, who was also a Navy Seal. JP’s brief description to me: “We went in and killed a lot of the motherfuckers who did it. We fucked ‘em up, and then we brought my friend’s body back. Then we sent him home to his family. We don’t leave any man behind.”

Before I give you the report on our day’s scout, I’ll now give you the abbreviated version of the Rez border mission that JP and Charlie did just a few weeks prior to this one. It was an overnighter, just meters adjacent to Interstate 8. Now, the average thinking man responds to this revelation with the thought “Well, what kind of nefarious and illicit drug gang activity is going to happen just meters from a giant, well-lit, all-American interstate highway, right under God’s and the world’s noses?”. As you are about to disturbingly discover, the answers are “plenty”, “the worst kind” and “deadly”.

Defiant Arizona lawmaker set to ramp up fight against illegals

Screw Obama.  Screw the Illegal Invasionistas.  Screw the Narco-Terrorist/Insurgents.  Screw the marxist-sociopaths.  Screw the Democrats.  Screw the Democrats in Drag.  Screw La Raza.  This is a fight to the death here and if you don’t believe me, when the time comes, don’t ask us for any help.  We’ll be busy.


For those who may not have heard of Mr. Pearce, let’s just say that the 63-year-old Republican from Mesa wants to crack down on illegal immigration like desert javelinas want to eat prickly-pear cactus.Arizona took a public-relations punch to the gut after passing the nation’s toughest anti-illegal-immigration law earlier this year, but anyone who thinks (or hopes) the state Legislature will lower its profile on the border-security issue in 2011 likely will be disappointed.

The state is positioned like never before to expand its efforts to combat illegal immigration. The November election saw Republican Jan Brewer elected to a second term as governor, largely on the strength of her decision to sign the headline-making law, while the Republican Party added to its already sizable majorities in the state House and Senate.

Most significantly of all, Russell Pearce was elected Arizona Senate president. For those who may not have heard of Mr. Pearce, let’s just say that the 63-year-old Republican from Mesa wants to crack down on illegal immigration like desert javelinas want to eat prickly-pear cactus.

“I’m not stopping until the problem is solved, and clearly the problem is not solved,” Mr. Pearce said in a telephone interview. “The cost is destroying this country, and it can no longer be ignored. I think America’s had it. I think that’s why we had the results we did in the election of 2010.”

It won’t come without a political price. Arizona was subjected to a public tongue-lashing from President Obama and all manner of boycott threats after the April passage of Senate Bill 1070, which requires police to check individuals for their immigration status after traffic stops and other detentions.

Mr. Pearce is himself routinely described by the left as a nativist, a bigot and worse. His ascension to the top Senate post was greeted by the liberal Phoenix New Times with a story that described him as “Arizona’s Pope of Prejudice.”

Even so, Mr. Pearce says he has no intention of backing down. He noted that Senate Bill 1070 has received consistently strong support in nationwide polls, to the point where other states are considering similar legislation.

“America’s on our side, so why would we retreat from doing what’s right?” he said. “We have a direct moral obligation to enforce the laws of our nation.”

First on his list is a bill to end birthright citizenship. Mr. Pearce and other lawmakers plan to unveil the measure at a Jan. 5 press conference at the National Press Club, five days before the start of the Arizona legislative session.

The idea is to make a big enough splash to catch the attention of other states that may be considering similar legislation. At least a dozen states are already expected to join Arizona in introducing legislation changing how they recognize the U.S.-born children of noncitizens.

Such legislation would present a direct challenge to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which says that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

Critics counter that the amendment, one of three passed after the Civil War dealing with the status of newly freed slaves, has been erroneously expanded to include the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants. That amendment overturned the prewar Dred Scott decision that neither blacks imported as slaves nor their descendants could be U.S. citizens.

“The 14th Amendment was never intended to be applied to illegal aliens,” Mr. Pearce said. “They [the sponsors] specifically said it didn’t apply to foreigners or aliens. That amendment belongs to the African-Americans of this country. It’s their amendment.”

He’s already getting pushback from the Arizona Republic, which argued in a Monday editorial that such a “wrongheaded quest” would distract from the more pressing matter of Arizona’s budget deficit.

If passed, the bill would almost certainly be subject to a legal challenge.

“No one’s looking to have the state waste time and money on something that’s clearly unconstitutional, but its sponsors are apparently going to leave us with no choice,” said Dan Pochoda, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona.

Lawsuits are nothing new for Mr. Pearce. He authored the Legal Arizona Workers Act, which revokes the business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal workers, which has been tangled up in court since it passed in 2007. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case Dec. 8.

So far, Mrs. Brewer hasn’t taken a position on the repeal of birthright citizenship, but Mr. Pearce is confident she’ll come on board. As any number of Arizona pundits have pointed out, she owes him: She was trailing in the Republican primary until she signed S.B. 1070, on which he was lead Senate sponsor.

It’s also worth noting that Republicans now hold a veto-proof majority in the Arizona Senate.

“She’s been vigilant in defense of 1070, so I think she’s in our corner,” Mr. Pearce said. “She’s not committed to the 14th Amendment [proposal], but maybe she just doesn’t want to show her hand.”

Also on Mr. Pearce’s agenda is beefing up border security. Given that the Border Patrol is a federal agency, he wants to see the state step in by deploying more troops from the National Guard, the state Department of Public Safety or even citizen militias.

“Put them under the National Guard or Homeland Security so they can get proper training,” Mr. Pearce said. “Article 1, Section 10 of the Constitution gives states the right to declare war. If this isn’t an invasion, I don’t know what is.”

The right to declare war is generally held by Congress as one of its enumerated powers in Article 1, Section 8. However, the later section cited by Mr. Pearce, which lists powers specifically denied to states, has one little-used caveat.

“No State shall, without the Consent of Congress … engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay,” it says.

Fallen Border Patrol Agent's Girlfriend Speaks About Her Hero - With Video

TUCSON – As family of the fallen Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry prepare to pay their last respects this week in Michigan, his girlfriend is here in Arizona still grieving.

Sarah Brelsford, an elementary school teacher in Sahuarita, says they were making plans to take the next step in their relationship.

For three years, Brelsford’s relationship with Terry consisted of quick visits and long-awaited phone chats. Their time together was hard to plan because of his career.

He was spending long periods of time out in the desert tracking drug smugglers, making it difficult for them to be together.

But she says they had just made plans to discuss how to make it work. He put in for a transfer to try and get closer to her.

She recalls the last time they spoke over the phone, before hearing the tragic news days later.

“He kept saying, ‘Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful,’ to me on the phone and I wish I just had that recorded. And all throughout the weekend, we kept texting and my last message from him was ‘missing you.’ Then I found out on Wednesday,” Brelsford said.
