Democrats and Taxes: An Inconvenient Process
Friday, January 30, 2009 at 3:47PM The mean-spirited fact-finders have determined that Tom Daschle is also a tax evader. Go figure.
ABC News has learned that the nomination of former Senator Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-SD, to be President Obama's Secretary of Health and Human Services has hit a traffic snarl on its way through the Senate Finance Committee.
The controversy deals with a car and driver lent to Mr. Daschle by a wealthy Democratic friend, a chauffer service the former Senator used for years without declaring their use on his taxes.
It remains an open question as to whether this is a "speed bump," as a Democratic Senate ally of Mr. Daschle's put it, or something more damaging.
After being defeated in his 2004 re-election campaign to the Senate, Daschle in 2005 became a consultant and chairman of the Executive Advisory Board at InterMedia Advisors.
Based in New York City, InterMedia Advisors is a private equity firm founded in part by longtime Daschle friend and Democratic fundraiser, Leo Hindery, the former president of the YES network (the Yankees' and Devils' broadcast network).
That same year he began his professional relationship with InterMedia 2005, Mr. Daschle began using the services of Hindery's car and driver.
The Cadillac and driver were never part of Daschle's official compensation package at InterMedia but Mr. Daschle -- who as Senate Majority Leader enjoyed the use of a car and driver at taxpayer expense -- didn't declare their services on his income taxes, as tax laws require. [...]
Laws don't apply to democrat party politicians. Just ask them. Hell. They get placed in high positions. Screw up and move up as it were. So, his appointment will sail through with no problems. Hillary was unconstitutionally confirmed so what's the big deal with another crook in the Czar's Administration?
Oh. Wait. I was supposed to insert the Obama Critic Disclaimer. OOPS.
Be sure to read the comments at the post by Jake Tapper. Czarbie The Innocent really is changing the USA...packing his Administration with crooks and liars. OOPS! I forgot to place that disclaimer in here again so, here it is.

If he was a Republican the media would already have Puff Daddy tarred, feathered and demand he withdraw his nomination. Obama is really changing the USA !!! Same ol' cronies -- and to be fair & balanced , just like Bush !!

Timothy Geithner, Charles Rangel, and now Tom Daschle...why don't Democrat officials want to pay their taxes? And when they finally do, why don't they have to pay a penalty?

So those rich Wall Street guys is actually Daschle? Obama hangs around some really corrupt people, it boggles the mind he remains so innocent.

I didn't see anything related to fines or penalties related to the refilings and the statement: "During the vetting process to become HHS secretary, Daschle corrected the tax violation, voluntarily paying $101,943 in back taxes plus interest, working with his accountant to amend his tax returns for 2005 through 2007." means what? Was there an option not to pay?..

I love when a scandal is revealed on a Friday afternoon at 6PM. Couldn't have another blemish on BO hit during a busy news week now could we?
This should certainly keep coverage and discussion to a minimum of yet another tax problem with admin choices. This will be forgotten about as Monday will be all about Superbowl Ads.
Yes, all the pols use this trick but alas it is annoying and thinly veiled.

This is unbelievable. Tom says he's sorry and the Republicans are "scrutinizing" him. WHAT?

So, while Tom faces "questions", no one will seem to give a damn because he said he was sorry? Besides, no one is perfect. Give me a break.
Rangel Rule.
The Marxist rag known as the New York Slimes has called for the unpatriotic Daschle to withdraw.
BREAKING NEWS! Tom Daschle steps down before he gets confirmed.
What about the rest of the "nominees"??
DEVELOPING ...
Tom Daschle has withdrawn his nomination for health and human services secretary, and President Obama has accepted.
It took him long enough. Tom Daschle has withdrawn his name from consideration to be President Obama's Secretary of Health and Human Services.
It's about time.
The only sadness and regret Daschle is feeling is that he was caught for being a tax cheat. If he had not been nominated, his tax bill would have gone unnoticed.
Dittos.
Hot Air is looking for a trifecta.

Hypocrisy abounds. If anyone says that the Dem party is for the little guy, the hundreds of millions of dollars raised by them this year, along with hobnobbing with the rich in Hollywood and Wall Street ought to elicit some shame.
Pathetic.
Shame? For a Marxist? What?
I thought you were in favor of voluntary taxation?
Democrat double standards rule the day. It's the old "Do as I say not as I do" bravo sierra.
When has a Democrat ever felt shame?
Dusty...your first mistake was thinking you could think
You know, the Dumbascraps are so all over being ethical, aren't they?
Sawbust -
Voluntary taxation? You mistake us for libertarians. Conservatives have always understood that taxation is needed, it's the amount that we debate.
Apparently Daschle believes that he's the best judge on what taxes he ought to pay. You're beef is with him - do you have the character to hold your own to the standards you hold Republicans to?
There ya go Shane. What have we told you about speaking logic?
