Blast in Pakistan Kills at Least 30, By SALMAN MASOOD

An explosion Monday morning in a busy commercial district in the garrison town of Rawalpindi killed at least 30 people and wounded dozens more, security and rescue officials said.

Military personnel were apparently targeted in the attack, and many of the victims appeared to be soldiers.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the mid-morning attack, which occurred a few hundred yards from the headquarters of the Pakistani Army. The bomb was apparently planted outside a branch office of the National Bank of Pakistan, where Army officials and civilians had gathered to collect their monthly salaries and pension payments.
