GOP and Others Making Trash Meal Of ReidCoCare Unconstitutional Federal Health Care Bill
Wed, December 16, 2009 at 13:54 This is GREAT! Tune into CSPAN 2 and listen to this business being read. It looks like the Christmas Bill will not make it. We'll know later.
[...] What does this do? It makes a hash out of Harry Reid’s plan to move the bill through the Senate by Christmas. Twelve hours of floor time for just a single amendment means that no other business can be conducted until at least Friday. Coburn apparently launched this effort in response to an attempt by Reid to shove the bill to a cloture vote without giving everyone enough time to read the bill or peruse the CBO analysis, due this week.
It’s a reminder that even with a supermajority, Reid needs to work with the minority to keep momentum. He can’t pull a Nancy Pelosi jamdown in the upper chamber, and any further attempts will mean weeks of bill reading as the legislation effectively filibusters itself. [...]
And there's more!
[...] The Senate’s chief socialist, Bernie Sanders, offered a single-payer health care amendment. It would open Medicare to all regardless of age, income, etc., and would be paid through higher income taxes. The normal procedure on the Senate floor would have been to dispense with the reading of the amendment. But “to alert taxpayers to this latest Washington scheme to take away your health care decisions,” Senator Coburn’s office writes, Sen. Coburn demanded that the full text of the 767 page Sanders amendment be read by the Senate clerk. [...]

Reid violated Senate rules and protocol and allowed the reading to be halted and Sanders to withdraw his amendment. In order to do such a thing he had to use a past precedent... when they made a mistake in the early 1990's and did it. Has he no shame? Hiding the bill from everyone else so they can't prepare, ask questions, see the deals he's making to get the votes, and we're paying this guy's salary? When I look back at Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, George Washington, and other great men and compare them to Obama, Pelosi, and this guy, I can only moan. We have, by far, the dumbest Speaker in our history, the most unimpressive leader of the Senate we've ever had, and the most naive anti-American idealogue that ever became President. Moe, Larry, and Curly look like brain surgeons compared to these "historical" people. None of them are even close to what the rest of us view as "leaders", in fact they're "anti-leaders." They're dishonest, self absorbed, waffling, unaccomplished, cowardly, sneaky, sacrifice others for their own benefit, blame others while taking no responsibility for themselves, and must rely on their position or biological factors (sex and race) to succeed and be in a position of power. What an embarrassment!
