BREAKING NEWS from the Our Country Deserves Better Committee...
In the final days of the campaign for the Special Election for Congress in NY-20 we wrote to you and said this race was a dead-heat. And even after the ballots have now been counted from yesterday's election it still is.
With 100% of precincts reporting, 59 votes are all that separate Republican Jim Tedisco from Democrat Scott Murphy.
The final outcome of this election will not be determined until absentee and military ballots are counted. According to election officials, there are currently 5,906 such ballots that have so far been mailed in, and ballots from Republicans outnumber those mailed in by Democrats by a margin of 798.
But things get a bit tricky here, so follow along.
The deadline for absentee ballots (postmarked by Election Day) to be received and counted by election officials is April 7th. Military ballots (again postmarked in time for Election Day) will be accepted by mail up through April 13th.
So we will not know whether Republican Jim Tedisco or Democrat Scott Murphy won for another 2 weeks.
But we wanted to let you know that there has been one winner already: YOU - the people who got involved in this race and fought with us on behalf of Conservative Republican Jim Tedisco, as a means to fight back against the agenda of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Congress.
Think about how significant it is that we are poised for victory in this race:
*The Democratic candidate outspent the Republican (with a lot of help from Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden). We've previously documented their involvement in this race throughout the campaign to show you how important this election was to the Democrats and why we needed to defeat them.
*Barack Obama won this very district just 4 months ago by 61%. Now his candidate who invoked his name at every turn, and was heavily promoted by Obama himself, could only muster 50%.
*Obama made an unprecedented final push to win this seat for the Democratic candidate - something he has previously not done for any other Democratic candidate. A TV ad featuring Obama's endorsement was aired by the Democratic National Committee in the district. Obama's top advisers took over strategic control of the Democrat's campaign. Obama sent 60,000 emails to his supporters urging them to vote for the Democratic candidate, Scott Murphy. Joe Biden cut a radio ad for the Democrat.
But thanks to you, and your support of our efforts to win this race, we fought back and are therefore well-positioned to win this race when all the ballots are counted.
Republicans have now filed suit to have all the paper ballots impounded, and please pay special attention to this point. Republicans want to make sure that they can defeat any attempts by Democrats to steal this election. Do you remember what happened in Minnesota with Democratic Senate candidate, Al Franken? When that race was declared too-close-to-call after election night (with Republican Norm Coleman actually ahead in the vote count), Democratic counties in the state suddenly announced that they had "found" hundreds upon hundreds of new votes for Democrat Al Franken. The "found" votes for Franken far exceeded votes cast for Obama which made no sense (there are always more votes cast at the top-of-the-ticket than for down-ballot races).
And it would not be surprising to see Obama, Pelosi and the Democrats try to steal this congressional seat too. But we will be fighting back -- more on that from us in the next day or two.
What I'd like to leave you with is an expression of our profound gratitude and appreciation of your support, hard work and financial contributions to this race.
In the final hours of this campaign we here at the Our Country Deserves Better Committee made one final push - both in advertising and Get-Out-The-Vote efforts. These efforts likely made the difference in this race and should mean victory for Conservative Republican candidate, Jim Tedisco.
But when we say "we," who we really mean is YOU. That's what our organization is -- it is nothing more and nothing less than a network of hundreds of thousands of interested, motivated and patriotic Americans teaming up to place our energies, efforts and money behind causes and candidates we believe in.
We were one of the first organizations in the country to recognize the national importance this race would have, and that is why we began emailing you about it several weeks ago. We kept up the fight, even to the point that we know we overwhelmed some of you with too many emails and too many appeals for contributions.
But we knew we had to do it. We saw the polling and we saw what the Democratic leadership were doing. In fact we broke the news first about a lot of the signs of how the national Democratic leadership of Obama, Pelosi, Biden, Clinton, et. al were getting involved in this race. They got involved to make sure they were not embarrassed with a key election loss at the same time that Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are trying to push through their radical, big-government, big-spending, higher-tax, quasi-socialist agenda.
This race meant a lot to us for a very specific reason as well. Our e-Campaign Coordinator, Kelly S. Eustis, is actually a constituent of the 20th congressional district. Our Vice Chairman, Mark Williams, has been a host on radio programs for 2 of the News/Talk radio stations in the district. We knew this district and what was going on and therefore realized before most other people what the Democrats were up to.
There was also something else that has made us very passionate about this race. Our other Vice Chairman, Deborah Johns, is a Marine Mom who has been a national pro-troop leader since 2004. She followed this race closely and saw that the Democrats had nominated an anti-military activist to be their standard-bearer.and we saw that the Democratic nominee, Scott Murphy, was trying very hard to replicate the pattern of Barack Obama: someone who masqueraded as a mainstream candidate but in fact had a history of radical leftist ideology.
So, thank you - from the bottom of our hearts - for joing the effort to win this campaign. You've shown through your actions how deeply you care about this country, our nation's future, and the ideals of limited government, freedom, liberty as well as respect for the honor, sacrifice, and service of our military men and women.
Some of you made contributions with money that you really needed to use for other things in your life. We received so many emails and letters from people explaining that while it would mean their monthly budget would be a bit tighter, that the importance of fighting for our nation's future meant they would sacrifice some of their hard-earned money to help make a difference.
That kind of passion and dedication made us realize that the burden was placed upon us to do our very best to win this race, and so we gave it everything we had.
We're going to keep fighting with that kind of determination, and commitment to you to never waiver in our principles or ideals. Our next step is to ensure there is an accurate and fair count of the remaining absentee and military ballots between now and April 13th.
And when that is complete, we will move on to the next key races that will offer us a chance to bring an end to the rule of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in the House and Senate -- and then beyond that, retaking the White House from Barack Obama in 2012.
We've only just begun to fight, but we couldn't have made it this far without you. Thank you so much!
