Club for Growth: Pelosi Receives Comrade Award
Pelosi Named Comrade of the Month
From Bailouts to Budget Blowouts, She’s Painting America Red
Washington – San Franciso's Nancy Pelosi is having a bad week. Her word has been called into question. But this much we know. She has worked tirelessly to spend taxpayer dollars, grow the size of government, and run up the country's debt. Our members voted to recognize her efforts with the Club for Growth's fourth Comrade of the Month award.
As President Obama's top lieutenant in the House, Speaker Pelosi has ushered through an agenda that includes a $787 billion “stimulus” package and a $400 billion “omnibus” spending bill. Both come on the heels of a $700 billion bailout bill passed last year.
But her commitment to spending doesn't stop there. Last month, she helped pass a record-smashing $3.6 trillion budget, saddling America's families and businesses with a $1.7 trillion one-year deficit. The budget also changed parliamentary rules to make it easier to pass a massive new healthcare entitlement – a program that could expand government control of care in ways not considered since Hillary Clinton’s plan in 1993.
Looking to the future, the Speaker's "flagship" priority remains her cap-and-trade energy agenda, which could mean an annual tax of nearly $2,000 on every American household.
“Nancy Pelosi's policies are the embodiment of fiscal irresponsibility,” said the Club's President, Chris Chocola. “If Congress continues down this path, the country’s economic problems will only grow, along with the heavy hand of government.”
The Club’s Comrade of the Month Award is given to the politician or public figure who best embodies big-government policies and restrictions on economic growth.
