Is Soros Behind 'Occupy Wall Street'?

Yes, he is.  So is Ron Paul and his demented Paultards (see the update).

Anti-Wall Street protesters say the rich are getting richer while average Americans suffer, but the group that started it all may have benefited indirectly from the largesse of one of the world’s richest men. There has been much speculation over who is financing the disparate protest, which has spread to cities across America and lasted nearly four weeks. One name that keeps coming up is investor George Soros, who in September debuted in the top 10 list of wealthiest Americans. Conservative critics contend the movement is a Trojan horse for a secret Soros agenda. Soros and the protesters deny any connection. But Reuters did find indirect financial links between Soros and Adbusters, an anti-capitalist group in Canada which started the protests with an inventive marketing campaign aimed at sparking an Arab Spring type uprising against Wall Street. Moreover, Soros and the protesters share some ideological ground. “I can understand their sentiment,” Soros told reporters last week at the United Nations about the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, which are expected to spur solidarity marches globally on Saturday. Pressed further for his views on the movement and the protesters, Soros refused to be drawn in. But conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh summed up the speculation when he told his listeners last week, “George Soros money is behind this.” Soros, 81, is No. 7 on the Forbes 400 list with a fortune of $22 billion, which has ballooned in recent years as he deftly responded to financial market turmoil. He has pledged to give away all his wealth, half of it while he earns it and the rest when he dies. Like the protesters, Soros is no fan of the 2008 bank bailouts and subsequent government purchase of the toxic sub-prime mortgage assets they amassed in the property bubble.

Protesters are preparing to set up camp outside the London Stock Exchange, expanding Occupy Wall Street demonstrations that began in New York. About 4,000 people have signaled their intent to attend a peaceful demonstration that will start at noon on Oct. 15, Kai Wargalla, one of the organizers of Occupy London Stock Exchange, said in a telephone interview yesterday. The group plans to mass in Paternoster Square, close to the London offices of both Bank of America Corp. in King Edward Street and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) on Fleet Street. Occupy Wall Street rallies started last month in New York’s financial district, where people have been staying in Lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park to protest inequality and advocate higher taxes for the wealthy. Citigroup Inc. (C) Chief Executive Officer Vikram Pandit, 54, said he would be happy to talk with participants, saying their sentiments are “completely understandable.” “We are protesting against social and financial injustices,” said Wargalla, a student, who declined to give further information about her background. “If you look at the financial sector and the political and regulatory system they don’t work for us, the common man.”

Well, I realize I’m no longer the biggest loser on Wall Street this year which, up to this point, my broker assures me I was. I were. No, I was.

Listen, it’s like most kids, Billy. I think, you know, the kids in this group don’t anger me. Some of the older losers I look at and go, oh, get on with it for God’s sakes. But kids have always through the ages dedicated their lives to core beliefs that they are not wise enough to elaborate on. They’re at the parapets, but they sort of (INAUDIBLE) the point. And, when you mix into the fact that we raised a generation that are a little narcissistic, you know what I mean, like no dodge ball, relativism in everything, everybody gets the same grades, nobody wins tug-of-wars, you’ve got a bunch of kids who were taught to be precious out there. And I don’t know that they know how to deal with real hardship if there’s not an app to deal with real hardship. So I think that’s where it stands. I don’t look at the kids there and go — I would have probably been one of those kids.

Meet the Flea Party!

Wingless, Bloodsucking and Parasitic: Meet the Flea Party! — So far, the only major accomplishment of the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters is that they have finally put an end to their previous initiative, “Occupy Our Mothers’ Basements.” Oddly enough for such a respectable-looking group — a mixture of adolescents looking for a cause, public sector union members, drug dealers, criminals, teenage runaways, people who have been at every protest since the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, Andrea Dworkin look-alikes, people 95 percent of whose hair is concentrated in their ponytails and other average Democrats — they can’t even explain what they’re protesting. The protesters either treat inquiries about their purpose as a trick question, or — worse — instantly rattle off a series of insane causes: “No. 1, abolish capitalism; No. 2, because 9/11 was an inside job; No. 3, because Mumia is innocent …”

Help Fight Capitalism

In the battle of Capitalism vs. Socialism, score one for making a profit. The Occupy Wall Street (and Everything else) protest has loudly proclaimed its goal of taking down Wall Street. As they explained their anti-corporate creed in the “Declaration of Occupation”: “We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments.” But capitalism and free markets have a way of winning on their own. And Occupy Wall Street is no exception. As of Tuesday, there were 1,200 “Occupy Wall Street” products available on eBay – for purchase.
